Board & Vacation Trips

JAN: At Pelican Hill Resort in California for my last College Board Trustees’ Retreat. Rated the #1 resort in the U.S., Mom joined me for the spectacular accommodations, spa, and food. I got a few hours off to explore Newport Beach.
 

JAN: In L.A., Mom’s longtime friend, famed actress Lisa Lu (Joy Luck Club, The Last Emperor, & many others), showed us Hollywood from the inside. We went to 4 private movie screenings and the world premiere of The Grey and party at The Palm where we supped and met director Joe Carnahan.
 

JAN: Visited Michael Richardson & Alton Alexander in Chicago. Toured Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House. Saw the Lyric Opera’s Aïda with supper after at Quartino’s.
 

FEB: Visited Garry Walters & his bride Sylvia in D.C. with Jon & Sandy Tafel. Caught up with Ed Crowe over lunch and sightsaw at the Nat’l Galery of Art and Int’l Spy Museum.
 

APR: In Oregon for a job interview, stopped to see Jack & Sandy MacPhail who relocated there from CT. Grabbed a box of notorious Voodoo Donuts to take home & share.
 

OCT: I took a few days in San Francisco to be a tourist at the Presideo & the Exploratorium, & to visit Auntie Florence Lin. Then to work at my State Farm Bank Nat’l Community Advisory Council Meeting. Of course, a lot of exquisite eating: roasted squid salad at Chez Panisse Café; crispy egg appetizer at Gary Danko; Dungeness crab at R&G Lounge.
 

OCT: At Cornell as one of Henry Shum’s guests for Council Weekend, where I stayed with Joe & Marney Thomas and enjoyed fine wines & dinners - one with Wilbur Parker Awardee Maynard & Imani Brown. My old Outdoor Ed group zipped me on a Tyrolean traverse across a Fall Creek Gorge. 

OCT: Tally Krumm & I visited with Tom Noe at his Nelsonville, OH residence. We nabbed two photos there.
